Dr. H.-W. Müller-Wohlfahrt’s microclinic opens its doors
Munich, 08.05.2008
Physician of the German national soccer team and FC Bayern Munich, Dr. med. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, specializing in orthopedic and sports medicine, will be opening the MW Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine in Munich today. Due to its medical specialization, its utilization of the latest technologies, and its focus on a high degree of mutual trust between the physician and the patient, this facility claims to be one of the most modern medical facilities in Europe. Since this facility is linked to university-affiliated institutes, Müller-Wohlfahrt's treatment processes can be assessed and thus made available to other physicians.
“The pressure on health facilities is increasing. They need new concepts to be able to assert themselves in the market in the long run", explained Dr. Peter Görlich, Managing Director of the MW Group. Medical quality and the use of the latest medical technology are crucial, but service providers must also use innovative networking technologies and create general conditions that facilitate the development of empathy between the physician and the patient. Starting today, these are the performance parameters that the MW Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine will operate under.
“For me, this Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine is my professional lifelong dream", explained Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt. “From a medical perspective, this means that we must create a specialized unit that operates on the highest level, both from a medical as well as a technological perspective.” This means that all necessary specialization areas must be made available under one roof to assist and, literally, meet the patient half-way. In the MW Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, the medical specialists in the fields of orthopedic medicine, internal medicine, radiology, and physical therapy provide seamless medical care and use the latest medical technology, such as high resolution imaging procedures.
In connection with this, patients expect their relevant medical data to be available to all service providers, so that their treatment can be continued in a seamless manner without loss of time. At the same time, they expect their private and medical data to be safe and their privacy protected. With the increase in specializations, there is an increasing need for communication and data exchange between the service providers on the basis of secure infrastructures. “The Professional Suite from ICW includes several applications that support the work processes within the center, and guarantee secure communication between the internal departments as well as external service providers,", explained Peter Reuschel, CEO of InterComponentWare AG (ICW). “At the same time, these solutions facilitate a connection to the future health telematics infrastructure“.
In addition to the already mentioned definable parameters such as medical know-how and technologies, one main component of the concept is empathy. Not only do the service providers require professional competence, but their social competence is also absolutely critical.
To provide other physicians with access to the concept of the MW Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, it has established scientific cooperative relationships with university-related institutes. In cooperation with the University of Regensburg, the Center plans to scientifically process, evaluate, and further develop service diagnostics, therapy approaches and preventive testing. “This way, we can continuously build on the Center's know-how with the latest scientific information and we can also achieve replicability of the methods”, explained Prof. Dr. Michael Pfeifer, Director of the Internal Medicine Department in the MW Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine.”
Investor Dietmar Hopp, entrepreneur and co-founder of SAP, is convinced of the value this concept: “This facility has the potential to set new standards. In the beginning, it will probably only be accessible to only a limited number of patients, but it prepares the way for optimized, sustainable patient care, placing the focus on the patient in an exemplary manner. Franco Renzo, Managing Partner of the MW Group can confirm that international investors have already shown interest in the concept.
