Personal Experience Led to the Foundation of ICW
Saturday night: The young daughter of Peter Reuschel, founder of ICW and member of the supervisory board, has coughing fits and has a hard time breathing. The general practitioner is able to alleviate the acute symptoms, but needs a lung x-ray for a more accurate diagnosis. The x-ray is taken in the emergency room of the closest hospital, but the hospital only wants to provide the parents with some handwritten notes on the findings. The parents do not want their daughter to be treated on the basis of a few scribbled, hard to read notes, and ask if they could take the x-ray to their general practitioner. The doctor on duty explains to them that the general practitioner may request the x-ray and that it would take three weeks for him to receive it. The parents are yet unaware of their legal patient rights.
