Electronic Prescribing: Building, Deploying and Using ePrescribing to Save Lives and to Save Money
A new white paper on ePrescribing released by the Center for Health Transformation presents a comprehensive look at the technology, its benefits in saving lives and saving money, and how to overcome the barriers to its widespread adoption. The paper provides policymakers and industry leaders comprehensive information on the benefits of ePrescribing, supporting the Institute of Medicine’s recommendation for all prescriptions to be written electronically by 2010. The paper includes experiences, perspectives and analyses that conclude that ePrescribing is an intelligent, efficient technology that improves patient safety and saves money by eliminating the inefficiencies of a paper-based system.
InterComponentWare contributed its knowledge in ePrescribing to this paper that was written collaboratively by members of the Center for Health Transformation.

National Roadmap and Practical Guides for Rapid Expansion of Electronic Prescribing
The eHealth Initiative and the Center for Improving Medication Management released a report that summarizes the national experience with e-prescribing over the past four years – from its pilot phase in several states to its present day nationwide use. The report outlines challenges that limit widespread adoption of ePrescribing and additional steps that should be taken to realize optimal results in health care improvement. Also, corresponding guides are included that offer practical information for health care payers to support effective adoption, and for consumers to better understand ePrescribing’s benefits and use.
